The Art for Life initiative of Contact Base has led to safeguarding of ICH and
sustainable development of 50,000 rural traditional practitioners (60% women,
90% belonging to minority and indigenous groups) in three states of India. More
than 40 ICH elements have been inventoried and documented, awareness raised
and heritage education and skill transmission, use of IP tools for protection of
artists’ rights supported. 15 artist villages have become destinations of heritage
education and cultural tourism with community-run village folk art centres.
Communities enjoy recognition and reach new audiences nationally and
globally.

CRT has given policy advice in India and neighbouring countries. This has had an incremental and increasing influence, greatly strengthened by the advent of the 2003 Convention. Members have participated in the panel of a major mapping project of ICH across India and in the Steering Committee of the national 5-year plan. CRT has also contributed towards post-disaster-need assessment in India and overseas. CRT serves in advisories in India, Argentina, Japan and Sri Lanka.

Folkland is considered as a pioneer organization in ICH activities in India
and has been working with school students to help transmit traditions to
the new generation. Attempts have been made to inventory and revitalize
traditions such as Chimmanakkali (folk theatre), Mangalam kali (folk
dance), Tholpavakoothu (shadow puppetry) etc. It has also made efforts to
digitalize the palm leaf manuscript for posterity. Folkland has extended the
training to women folk in drum beating and mural painting for sustainable
development. It has also developed cultural programs to protect the cultural
identity of transgender community.

HVPM works for tribals to raise awareness with regard to ICH. HVPM provides
support and cooperation to other organizations to establish infrastructure
and impart training and coaching. Organization of an annual exhibition
which showcases the Indian TSG and Culture. HVPM is currently conducting
a workshop in collaboration with UNESCO Accredited NGO “Embodying
Reconciliation” regarding the research Project “Museum Bodies for Empathy”.
